I have been using ACDsee for years. Have probably 25,000 photos with tags, etc. I'm interested in making the jump to LR (I have been using LR recently to do better editing) but have no idea how? With the least risk to losing data, tags, etc. I do NOT want to have to go back and re-tag stuff

How do I do this? How do I check to see if it worked? Any help would be great.

Nervous rookie

Does ACDSee allow you to save metadata tags back to the files as xmp? That's going to be your best bet.

no idea really; however the best thing imo is to a little at a time to see what works and doesn't work
start with your most recent files and work back.
Good time to do a big clean up (read delete the rubbish we seem to collect)

What i did at my migration from Expression Media (EM) to Lightroom two years ago is to put all stuff in the Keywords with 'helperkeywords' with help of some scripts.
These keywords could be pushed into my (DNG) images and Lightroom recognized this information. All my rating and collections (Catalog sets in EM) could be restored this way. I wrote a (dutch) blog about my experience (link).
However it was not difficult from a technical point of view, it was a lot of work...
