Adding comments

Hi,
I am sure this will end up being a daft question, but here goes

I want to be able to add some general comments about an image, for example where it was take, or some brief notes about the background to the photo.
I use Lightroom CC, and the comments section, say it is not supported there?

Have I got to do something to wake it up, or is there anywhere else to make comments ?

The Comments section is reserved for viewer comments of LR Mobile images viewed on the web portal. There are other metadata fields that can be utilized for your purpose by usurping their original intense purpose. Best for your intentions is probably John Beardsworths Big Note plugin.

I don't know if this would work for what you're wanting to do. In the Meta Data Panel, change the drop-down menu to Large Caption. You can type in whatever you desire.
