    Keeping original raw files

Hello Ferguson First, thanks a lot for sharing your developed plugin, otherwise I was anyway going to ask for it :) will try definitely Secondly, could you please elaborate on the IV being "broken"? I do monthly checks on my Mac and the attached HDDs with IV... Is there anything I should be...

Laptop died but most probably hard disk is intact

In the Preferences->Presets you can tick the "store settings with the catalog", and the problem solved ;-) if you don't want it by whatever reason, next to the checkbox there is a button "show lr presets folder" which is very useful.

    How to remove this label

It's just the (I)nformation label which you can remove or alter by pressing the (I) button :-)

I'm getting absolutely no pleasure using Lightroom!

If you can, replace the hdd with the ssd. For me the hdd was a severe bottleneck. Now i am so happy with my samsung 850 evo (500gb) which cost me less than 200€.

    New SSD

From my experience: definitely! I've just installed a 500Gb Samsung EVO SSD to my MacBook Pro 2012, and lightroom now flies as compared to the factory-installed HDD. So I guess if your extHDD is not SSD, you'd better store your catalog/previews on the internal SSD. And don't forget to back it up...

Dual Card Import - can you suggest Media Reader to buy?

Did you try searching on aliexpress? They have lots of stuff :) For instance: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Onfine-MINI-5Gbps-2in1-USB-3-0-High-Speed-Micro-SD-SDXC-TF-Card-Reader-Adapter/32277015182.html Just browse through options, check the reputation of the seller (top right, percentage...

Videos -1 hour wrong compared to photos taken at the same time

I had the same question, but after looking into the exif of video files I realized, the dates are written differently sometimes. Instead of normal hh:mm:ss the camera writes hh:mm:ss in GMT, and adds +01:00 for time zone correction.

    LR - long load time

Could you please clarify what state is "loaded" state? Try to see if your hdd is ok with Disk Utility (verify disk). Also, what system you are using?

Removing JPGs from RAW+JPG pairs (but not JPG edits)

That's too much work, and not sure if _edit jpegs will be unaffected. My proposal is: In the catalog, turn the setting on to treat raw and jpg as separate photos, sync folders, and all the jpgs that were paired with raws will reimport. Just select last imported photos (automatic smart...

Lightroom 5.7 -- How to Find Problem Files?

Can you rebuild/build previews for all files? To do that, you need to change the standard preview size in settings before - to the smallest one. Then rebuilding the previews will do it on all the existing files. For corrupt files it should give you the list.

    Using external drive

Sure, I do it all the time :-) just to work faster, render the previews. Moreover, you can work with your photos even when your external hdd is disconnected! For that you need Lr5 and "smart previews" rendered from your photos. They take just a tiny bit of space on your internal hdd.

LR5 Mac VS Win — OMG!

Hi everyone! I've used my MacBook Pro Mid-2012 (i7, 8Gb, no-SSD, OS Yosemite) to manage my Lightroom library. It was a bit sluggish, but o.k. to work with, in general, especially if the previews are generated beforehand. My library is 100k+ photos with some reasonable amount of metadata (lrcat...

    Catalog Catch 22

I remember having similar problem. This is the way I solved it: 1) Rename a photos folder in finder/explorer. 2) from lightroom, locate now missing folder. If you want to keep the folder name the same as before, just repeat the trick. Hope that helps!

How can I find missing photos who's names have been changed?

So, it was a bit trickily hidden, but here you are: 1. (You've done this I suppose) Make a new name "Photo-<Inc Nr:1>" 2. Then tap the button called Renumber under the "add batch method" title. Here are the attributes of Renumber function: Good luck!

How can I find missing photos who's names have been changed?

No worries, momo, when I get back home (~10 pm Europe time), I'll take a look at the software. I'm pretty sure there is an option for that ;-)

How can I find missing photos who's names have been changed?

Hi! Take a look at this free renaming tool for Windows: http://www.advancedrenamer.com/ It's awesome in complex renaming and it keeps the history of file names in case you mess up ;-)

    Trouble with metadata on videos

I think for some file formats it's possible to use exiftool to add date-related metadata. With GPS I am not sure if it is possible. However there is no way to insert metadata directly with LR.

There is a photomatix export plugin For lightroom. Once you select all your bracketed files, go to file-export-photomatix pro, and then you will see a popup window asking you about the properties of the desired derivative file, including the name. I usually set the name as a...

Can i store images on dropbox rather than locally but still access them in lightroom?

Here's one WebDAV which is not that expensive: Yandex Disk. It comes with 10 Gb free (worth a try), and is expandable up to 1 Tb for 9000 Rub (ca 240 USD) a year. I use it as a mountable drive and pretty much like it.

Unable to copy files into existing catalog

Hi Anak, The only 2 possibilities for that behaviour that I can envision are: 1. Files are "locked" or somehow booked by file system, and that prevents them from being moved to another location. On Mac I had sometimes problems with files which I locked against deletion on my DSLR. You can check...

How can I reintegrate my xmp files to the RAW files

There are two things that come to my mind: 1. If you were editing photos in LR, you don't care about the xmp, unless you open files in other software. For that, all your edits are actually stored in the catalog, which you were using for your work. If you delete xmp, you can resave again from...
