ok thanks. i just gave it the letter M and i'll see if that helps any.
regarding the windows-mac transfer - is there any reason why packaging would be preferable to just right clicking the "missing" drive in Lightroom, selecting Find missing folder... and indicating the EHD as it appears on...
Also...
I understand then from your explanation - that when moving from Windows to OSX or vice versa - there is no solution. In this case I will always have to help Lightroom identify the drive. Is that correct?
Hi Cletus, thanks for your quick reply! :)
My setup is actually like you describe.
In my EHD I have three folders:
1. Lightroom (which contains: catalog, catalog backups, catalog previews and Lightroom settings)
2. My Pictures (all original images)
3. Work folder (all edited copies of images...
I have all my photos and Lightroom catalog stored on an external hard drive.
I often need to move between different platforms - at home I use a pc and at school I use a Mac.
The hard drive is formatted to FAT so it works fine between both platforms.
The only problem is this:
When plugging in...
hi jim. so i checked and YES i can see my presets in Lightroom Setting > Import Presets > User Presets!
So I just want to verify...
If I now tick that option of "Store presets with catalog" - will it find those custom made presets... all other user presets?
Thanks for the reply erro!
So if my presets are not showing up, does that mean "store presets with catalog" was unchecked? or it that not necessarily so?
The laptop on which I normally did my photo editing died. Coffee spill :(
Luckily all images are on an external hard drive. My lightroom catalog, backups, catalog previews and there's a folder titled Lightroom Settings as well.
So I installed Lightroom 3 on my other laptop and connected the...
I've recently copied over my images to an external drive (formatted to FAT32) for use between my PC and a Mac somewhere else.
I've set the folders in the Lightroom catalog to correspond with the external hard drive. One sub-folder there containing mainly PSD files will not synchronize.
When I...
Finished the checksum test. zipping and unzipping the Lightroom folder into a different directory (on same internal NTFS formatted drive) resulted with 0 errors.
Okay zipping up the Lighroom folder now.... (it's taking a bit of time due to the large number of files it has to go through).
A couple of things maybe I should mention, but unsure if they could be related:
1. I formatted the drive on a Mac.
2. I didn't use the option to put zeros in all cells...
Hi Hal. I probably could have just copy/pasted using Windows explorer rather than FreeFileSync... but later I'll be needing folder syncing software to sync between the external drive and the internal drive on my laptop. So I figured I'd use the software from the get-go and test it out... see how...
Thanks Hal.
Actually, come to think of it.... the only files I ended up compressing to a zip archive and then decompressing are the files in the Lightroom folder.
I also transferred about 150 GB of images (raw cr2 files, tiff, psd, jpg, etc.). These I DID NOT compress. Although it's 150GB, the...
I asked the computer room guy. He wrote down my suggestion of possibly installing that software, but he says that if they end up doing that it won't be anytime soon. So for now, I'm just gonna stick with the drive formatted to FAT32.
I'm curious to know whether you think the glitches (missing...
I'll have to see if it's possible. The Mac, is not just one computer... there are 4 computer rooms - each with about 8 Macs. And I don't have permission to install software, I assume it'll have to go through someone who is in charge of the computers. But I'll ask.
Okay, thanks for the...
Not great news.... I used a program called ExactFile to check the integrity of the files transferred to the external drive.
ExactFile found 168 errors, most of which are basically files that are on the internal drive, but don't exist on the external drive. They got lost somewhere in the...
Well, decompressing the zip file took almost 5 hours... but that's much better than five DAYS.
I'll soon run a checksum (or whatever it's called) software that verifies all was copied well. Will check back later...
I think I've found a solution.
As it appears... I was right about the FAT file system being very slow at transferring large numbers of files at once. And it's not like copying 2000 1mb files will take twice as long as 1000 1mb files... it can actually be 4 or 5 times as long, maybe more. The...
Hal, thanks for your reply.
I'm pretty sure that I wasn't able to open a Lightroom catalog from an external drive. It might not be a "Lightroom thing", but rather some kind of security limitation the school computer system has. Then again, I could be wrong. I'll try again next time I'm there...
Hi. I need some help.
I normally work on a PC in a Windows environment.
Currently, I'm attending an art residency at an art school in New York. I brought my PC laptop with me, which has Lightroom 3.4 installed, yet all the computers at the school happen to be Macs.
So I went and purchased an...
Re: How to edit in Photoshop and keep the Photoshop layers?
Thanks Victoria!! That actually makes sense. I was just wary of the term "Edit the Original" without knowing exactly what that means and never tried it. So in this case it would mean editing the original of the 'edit' rather than the...
Something I can't figure out in the Lightroom workflow...
I have my original image in the Lightroom Library and I want to edit it using Photoshop.
So I right-click the image and select "Edit with Photoshop...".
Next I get a dialogue window asking if I want to edit a copy with Lightroom...
Re: Importing from Canon 5D mark2 - getting "Preview unavailable for this file"
Hey!
Problem is solved !! :D
With little hope I just started looking through Lightroom Preferences and stumbled onto a section under the File Handling tab titled Camera Raw Cache Settings.
I googled the subject...
Re: Importing from Canon 5D mark2 - getting "Preview unavailable for this file"
Formatted card. Didn't help.
I don't have the option currently to use alternative computer, card, or same model camera. But as I mentioned before, previews work fine with Canon EOS Utility and also when importing...
Re: Importing from Canon 5D mark2 - getting "Preview unavailable for this file"
Hi Jim. Thanks for the reply!
Things I've tried so far and their results:
Tried using Canons EOS Utility > All image previews are displayed fine. No problems.
Then went back to Lightroom > but still got the...
I recently purchased a Canon 5D mark ii.
I import and organize my images using Lightroom 3.
For the first few months I had no problems using the two together. But recently during 'Import' from the Canon 5D mark ii around 1'%-6'% of the cr2 thumbnails in the import dialogue are not able to...
