Hi all,

Either lightroom is not functioning or my understanding is incorrect.

I was browsing some old videos, and the library filter "date" was showing the photos as taken in 2013 (they were taken in 2005).
The text under.the photos in grid views set to show capture date and time, this is showing the correct date of 2005.
The metadata browse shows the exif date as being 2013.

What is going on? Screenshot below

Try Exiftool from Phil Harvey and read out all possible date values:

exiftool -*date* -IMGP0254.*

Perhaps then you will see the different dates and discover when which date is used.

Best Regards
Wernfried

To compliment what Wernfried has said. The EXIF Dates are not the only dates stored in the LR catalog. You may also find:
Metadata Date
Capture Date/Time
Capture Date Original
Date/Time Digitized
IPTC Date Created
Last Modified Date

The "Last Modified Date" is a field that is common to all filetypes not just image file types.
These can all be in Sync or diverge as post processing progresses. In addition to this, video files may follow EXIF rules or may include other date type values in the Video header.

The LR Metadata panel only exposes certain fields depending upon which Metadata Set is selected. There are several Presets other than the Default. None of them include all of the Metadata that LR associates with an image file. You can create your own custom Metadata Preset with more Date fields available using Jeffry Freidl's "Metadata Preset Builder" plugin.
