    Hi,
I am a new member and having a question which I already had when using Lightroom 3.6, but even now with Lightroom 4.1 RC, I think that Lightroom counts and displays photos with keywords in 2 different ways:
For a better understanding please look at my attached screenshot. Here you can see an extract of my keyword list (in German).
Although "Thema" (="theme" in English) is a main keyword, the count is only 8. This is because there are actually only 8 photos containing the keyword "Thema", although as you easily see there are at least hundreds (2063 to be exact) of them. Ok, that could be fine - or better said, this is the way of counting #1.

Now let's try to find those images which really have the keyword "Thema" in them:
Go to the filter menu and search for "Thema": you will find all 2063 photos, but only 8 of them really contain "Thema" as a keyword.
This is the way of counting #2. (s. screenshot)

My question: how can I filter to find only those 8 photos? I would like to remove the keyword "Thema" in them.
I hope that sounds understandable and I am looking forward to your answers,
    Thank you,
    Frodo

Hi Frodo, and welcome to the forum.

Click on All Photographs, then use the main Library filter and choose Keywords in the first column. Then at the right-hand side of the Keywords column header, click on the tiny down arrow and a small context menu appears. See screenshot. Choose "Flat" and the display will then change to list all keywords and the numbers for each will be only those that actually have the keyword directly assigned. So "Thema" should then show only 8, click on it and the 8 pictures will appear in the grid.

The problem is due to the fact that a photo can get a keyword in two ways:
    - directly assigned (by ticking the checkbox next to the keyword)
    - indirectly inherited (by ticking the checkbox for a child keyword)
