That's the message that invades the top portion of my photos when I am viewing the previews on my laptop and the originals are elsewhere on an external drive. Isn't there a way to get rid of the message?

If you know what it means and you're just disturbed by the message itself, not wanting to do development work on the photos, you can use Survey View to look at the previews without the banner (unfortunately there's no way in LR3 to get rid of it in Loupe View).

Otherwise you should hook up your external drive to your Laptop to make the originals available to Lightroom.

I just tried it in survey view and it solves the immediate problem. Thanks. Just curious, will I lose any features I had with Loupe View?

Aha! To answer my own question, I just found one feature that won't work in Survey View: I can't click on the picture and magnify it to 1:1 or toggle back and forth between "Fit" and any other zoom I choose. Any other differences?

I don't have a list of differences, I guess you'll find out while using it. One thing I know of is that Survey view does not show the info overlays.

Several people have already complained about this "xxxx is offline or missing" in Loupe view. Have you filed a feature request to get rid of it?
