Soft Proofing & Brush Tool

When I soft proof in Lightroom and in the Master/Proof Copy screen, I can make adjustments with all the tools (Gradient, Radial filter) except the brush tool. I have closed LR, restarted computer but no luck. I get an adjustment pin but nothing happens no matter what effect I try.
I am on a new iMac operating El Capitan.

This does not happen on my old Mac Pro.

Check the brush settings. Maybe the Flow or the Density are set to zero.

I had a similar sounding problem a month or two ago, and resetting the Preferences did the trick for me. Worth a go if your brush settings are ok.
