normaly i don´t print from lightroom and i have just started to look into LR 4 softproofing.

now there is a point "proof" in the settings menu.

i wonder what that is for?
it seems not to affect softproofing.

When checked, that means that this file is a proof. Normally this is triggered automatically when you are in soft proofing mode and make a change in Develop; it asks you whether you want to make a Virtual Copy, and that VC is your proof copy.

A proof copy is just like any other VC, except that the output profile is stored with it so that the Print module can set it properly.

ah.. so it´s just a info if it is meant to be a proof or not.

i wondered because it doesn´t matter for the "proof" option under "settings" if i check or uncheck the checkbox for softprofing.

thanks!
