OK - lots of good information - thanks to all!
When Mavericks first arrived on the scene, I had considered setting up a dual-boot system, but decided not to bother. It was a lot more fun buying a new MacBook Pro (ha!).
Seriously, I have yet to find a slick way for both LR4 and LR5 to access...
Nope - there are programs on our iMac which will not run at all under Mavericks ...
Looking forward to running Yosemite on my MBP, however!
Thanks for your advice.
The answer to your question is rather political - my wife has a few old favorites that still run on Snow Leopard, so we keep the iMac with all the old stuff on it for her.
Importing a small LR4 catalog of updates as you suggested really sounds intriguing! I think that could work for me...
I currently use LR4 on an older iMac running OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). Since this iMac is "older", I need to keep it using OS 10.6.8 in order to maintain compatibility with many "older" programs. However, this prevents me from upgrading to LR5.
However, I could use LR5 on my new MacBook Pro...
Greetings,
In the near future I will be having a situation similar to the one mentioned above. I currently have an iMac and a MacPro running Apple Snow Leopard, with LR4 on each. Because of their age, I cannot run LR5 on either of these computers. In the next week or so I anticipate...
Just to make sure I'm thinking correctly, what is the proper way to "sync the local catalogs" ? Probably a dumb question, but I'm still learning.
Thanks
Cletus, thanks for your inputs - I didn't realize my question of a couple of days ago would create such an interesting discussion!
I am still considering the best way to go to run LR4 on both of my computers, and am getting close to a decision. I'm starting to think that a single storage drive...
Robert,
You've got me wondering how to set up an NAS: nitty-gritty details about equipment, software, etc. ...
Rather than boring everyone with mundane details, I just sent you a PM, although many others might be interested as well.
Thanks,
Sorry for the confusion ...
What I have amounts to two identical catalogs, pictures files, backup files, etc. - one at my iMac and the other at my MacPro. What I was looking for is an easy way to keep them identical - if I make changes on one, how do I easily transfer the changes to the other...
Great suggestions! Thank you both!
Now I need to get to work and discover what works the best for me ... This has been bugging me since I attended a Matt Koslowski LR4 seminar in June - hopefully I can implement a workable solution and get back to editing photos!
Hello Robert,
I have two computers using Lightroom, in two different locations in my home. After importing picture files into the drive attached to my main computer (MacPro), I process them using LR4 on that computer. Then, in order for the adjusted files to be viewed and/or processed with my...
Very cool - thanks to you both!
I think the Chronosync software would be more appropriate for use with my two Mac computers - I just downloaded it, and will give it a try this morning. The initial price of GoodSync vs Chronosync is the same so that is a wash, but as Victoria mentioned, free...
After posting the message above, I went Googling and found a program called Goodsync. I downloaded the free demo, and gave it a try with excellent results. With 16451 pictures currently in my catalog, I was able to synchronize and upload/download without a hitch inside of 15 minutes. The...
Greetings,
I am currently using LR4 on two separate computers, with two separate hard drives. When I modify photos on one installation, I copy the changes to a portable drive, carry the drive to the other computer, and then load the changed files into the other installation - obviously not an...
When I record video, I sometimes rotate the camera so that I'm in portrait rather than landscape orientation. However, when viewing the file with LR3 I had to use an external editor to rotate the images because they would appear in landscape orientation, placing the images at a 90 degree angle...
I tried both - the one which is labeled as "EPSON SP R1800", (EPSON_Stylus_Photo_R1800 Version 8.61) produces very dark results, and I gave up on it. I downloaded it from the Epson site a couple of days ago.
I am using the other one, which is labeled as Epson Stylus Photo R1800 - Gutenprint...
Updated profile - lots of nice changes here since I first posted in 2008.
Yep, updated Epson driver yesterday (Stylus Photo R1800). I also use a ColorMunki to calibrate the Display and Printer, but had poor results with latest color profile. I finally reverted to one which I ran in 2009...
Thank you for your quick reply, Rikk!
I also would be interested to know what my printing problems are. After initiating this thread I noticed another with a similar subject. As I mentioned there, my Epson R1800 prints about 2% too long (vertically), but another printer (Canon i900D) prints...
Hello - I just noticed this thread after posting another to ask how to adjust an image size before printing. I had a slight scaling error where the height as printed was about 2% longer than it should have been.
In my case, my Epson R1800 prints about 2% higher, as mentioned, which makes faces...
In Photoshop I can use the Image Size routine to independently adjust the height or the width of an image. In my case, I found that the height needed to be set slightly lower (printer problems), so I was able to manually enter a new dimension.
So far I have been unable to find a way to do...
I have the identical problem, but only on my Intel MacPro running OS 1'.5.7 where I have the 64 bit version of LR2.4. I eventually discovered that synchronizing the folder would put the edited file next to the original in LR, just as liphotoaz did.
However, on my G5 iMac running 1'.4.11, I am...
It Works!
Well, at the risk of seeming to be a perfect idiot (no-one's perfect, right?), I opened LR 2.3RC again today and had complete success!
My intent was to gain more information to try and trouble-shoot the problem I had with catalog recognition, and to my surprise it opened just fine...
