    Catalogs Catalog Size and Management?

For what it is worth: My many generation old personal catalog with 187,000 images opened from a cold start to the Library of all photos in 14 sec. It is a 2 year old Dell G15 WIn 11 gaming machine upgraded to 32G Ram, a 11th gen intel i7, 1TB SSD, and a 6 GB NVIDIA 3060 GPU. 14 sec startup is...

    Catalogs Catalog Size and Management?

I have 2 catalogs. The first is for my personal photos. It has been around since LR v2, and has about 180,000 photos in it. The second is one I maintain for my local photo club. It has been around roughly 10 years and it is used to maintain our contest images, club trip images, etc. In...

    LR is slow and quirky

Also sell us how much free space on the C Drive . With my slow startup external drive, I never get the "not responding" message, so I think Cletus's described cause is the most likely.

    LR is slow and quirky

Could you define better what "slow and quirky" is. Does mostly occur when in the Library module? In the Develop module? When masking? I have a little less than half of what you have, and no real issues - except when I hook up a WD 8TB external USB drive. I don't keep photos on it. My system...

To what extent, if at all, does it still make sense to take photographs now that AI makes it great to take pictures?

They are very topic dependent. On the average, they each attract about the same number, with a good sized overlap between the two. Our monthly contest entries have decreased some because we changed the time period you could pull from your libraries from two years to one year - in the hope of...

To what extent, if at all, does it still make sense to take photographs now that AI makes it great to take pictures?

I am a member/VP of our local community Photo Club. We have two competitions. The first is a monthly competition that started with the idea of SOOC photos, with only global edits permitted, and no object removal. No HDR or focus stacking. We have added that AI editing of noise and sharpness is...

To what extent, if at all, does it still make sense to take photographs now that AI makes it great to take pictures?

AI is an interesting, and complex topic. I have played with the Photoshop generative fill with my photos. I understand, to some degree, what it can do and not do. I know what my smartphone currently does and does not do wrt AI. I also know what I want from my photography. I also have no...

To what extent, if at all, does it still make sense to take photographs now that AI makes it great to take pictures?

Seems like more of a philosophical question than a technical or tool question, at least to me. I suppose I could ask the same question about any art form. Your last question of "who ...wants to ...take creative pictures?" can perhaps get to the roots of what is creativity. As Cletus said, AI...

Catalog management - do you have a separate 'Finals' catalog

Workflow is an interesting topic. You can find lots of videos and advice on the topic, but it eventually becomes personable. Lightroom Classic is quite good as it gives you lots of tools to set up your workflow in a way that often mirrors how you think. You can use your operating system's...

    Customer Review LR Front End

I think you can go a long way towards this by using a Google Drive folder. Set up a folder on Google Drive, and download the folder of jpegs into it that you want reviewed. Then sync that folder to one on you pc. G-Drive will sync the contents . Then give your clients Edit rights to that G-Drive...

    Book Module Issue

I just checked my most recent book done in LRC 13.1 I am running Windows 11 (shouldn't make a difference). I have a very light background, 20% opacity. It is hard to see on the page, but it is there. If I increase the opacity to about 90%, I see it easily (on page 1). What happens if you...

    Questions on Metadata + Filtering

I have completed my trial, and have purchased the product. I have found it quite useful, though not perfect. It is really very fast - I have a database of 180,000 photos and simple searches take only a few seconds. You certainly still need to do some keywording yourself, such as precise...

I don't think this is right...

My first guess is they are applied during import. Do you have any presets that use at import? If, check to see if it is checked there. Jim

Slideshow module Lightroom Slideshow still crashing.

Are you still running what you called your " My "Test" slideshow has 61 slides" and that is crashing? If you run it for only 10 sec a slide, it should run for 10 min. Does it run that long with out crashing? At 30 sec a slide, it would 30 min - and does it crash then? If the first answer is...

    Questions on Metadata + Filtering

I'll try to answer a couple of questions I see. I use LR Classic, and I use Keywords on my photos. LRC will also do facial searches and add names you assign to the photos. I'll generally supplement these with keywords. I can then search for photos (filter them) by keywords I have assigned. I am...

Using the Clone Stamp In Photoshop 2024

Yes, I often use the PS Clone at 20 - 50% or so opacity when I am "cleaning up" an area and expect to do multiple passes until I get what I want. Then, if I go off to other things and later return, I sometimes forget that the opacity is still set at 20% - and the result surprises me.

    Masking overhead pot light

;) I guess I don't see the use of PS as "cheating". But that discussion probably belongs in another thread. I personally avoid the "10 applications" route and move to the right PS tool more quickly. The PS Remove tool required only a single use to get a very acceptable result. That's why Adobe...

    Masking overhead pot light

I can now do 90-95% of my editing, including small area editing, in Lightroom Classic. Your photo falls into the 10% where PS is still the best tool available. And I agree, the education journey never ends.

    Masking overhead pot light

I downloaded your raw. I first used the LR Enhanced DeNoise to produce a .dng I didn't really like anything I did using Lightroom only masking tools, or the LR remove or content aware heal tools. I then took the .dng into Photoshop where I tried both the Remove tool and the Generative fill...

    Masking overhead pot light

I honestly don't know the limitations here. And it probably needs to be a small jpeg. But you could put the raw file in something like Dropbox and post the link here.

    Masking overhead pot light

Other than a simple "create a gradient mask and reduce the exposure" comment, if you post the photo I and others could give you a better response. And if you post a large sharable file we could probably even share some work on it with you.

    Splitting my catalog

Well, like the two previous responders, I would also ask why. That said, I manage two catalogs. The main one of all my personal photos contains about 190,000 photos. That size is not an issue. The second one is a Catalog of all our my photo club photos, mostly taken by others. That is about...
