Hi, I am a newbie and have joined this blog so I can learn anything and everything about Lightroom. First of all, my profile shows what level of Lightroom I have, truthfully I have yet to install Lightroom. Having said that, I need some recommendations...do I want to go with the monthly-dues CC or would I be better off buying a CD installable program, if they still make it. Thanks in advance for the help!

Thom,

Welcome to the forums. When you have a fair amount of spare time, install the trial version of Lr. You get 30 days to try before you buy. At that point you can decide which version you prefer. You can still purchase a perpetual license version or go for the monthly subscription model. The CC version does offer some items which are not available to the perpetual license holders yet. At some point, most people expect a version 7 of Lr, at that point the new features added to the subscription model will become available to the perpetual license holders.

A few examples of features available to the CC holders which are not available to the perpetual license holders. Dehaze functions, some Transform effects, something with Lr Mobile (I do not use this so not sure of the details). Also the CC Photo plan includes PhotoShop, so if you currently purchase that separately the subscription plan will likely save you a lot of money.

Ask Adobe, or maybe someone on here still has the link which shows the differences between perpetual and CC.

Welcome aboard Thom!

At this point, I'd recommend the CC subscription. They're adding useful new features at a pretty good pace, and there's no way of knowing whether there will be an LR7.

LR can be a bit of a headful 1st up. A good book like Victoria's at the top of the this page is the better way to go IMO. Youtube is handy once you have an understanding of LR . If you have other editing programs I suggest turning them off so you have to work in LR only. That worked for me.

True, a lot of the problems we see here are due to new users just trying to pick it up as they go along, or just reading blogs or watching tutorials on YouTube, and then running into trouble later. Problem is, you tend to miss essential information if you don't follow something structured to get the basics.
