Hello there,
I tried to upgrade from LR 6.0.0 to 6.5.0 on MacOS 10.8.5 and I only get a msg box which says:

"Adobe Lightroom cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer ... / and two boxes:
"Ignore" "Report..."

And yes, I am aware that since CameraRAW 9.5.1 (and probably therefore also LR 6.6.0 or even LR 6.5.1) Mac OS 10.8.5 is no longer supported (which i really dislike).

But as far as I understand this LR 6.5.0 (perp.license) should run on my OS...??!

What makes me wonder is that I do not get the well known permission-issue error messages - just this message.
Anyway, I spent hours and tried all problem solving suggestions provided in the context of the premission issue, as there is running the shell script, even changed all permissens by hand, checked it, doing servel install-and-desinstall and computer restart and permission repair cycles , also not only under my user account but also as admin - still i get the same message.
I tried to install LR 6.6.1 and - as expected - the app-icon in the Application-Folder is stroke through, signaling not running on that OS. Ok - but LR 6.5.0 icon is not stroke throuth - so it should work....

And I do not want to upgrade to higher Versions of both system and LR - but i got a new camera that only LR 6.5.0 does support - and I need to get this running soon.

I am dedicated user of LR since LR 0.9, and the followed the complete patch to LR 6, using it nearly daily, had very few catalog crashes, last one long ago in LR 4 or so, tons of pictures stored in my catalog archives.... And I absolute love LR - and i would totally hate to switch to another software....
so, pleeeeze - I would be happy about any hints to solve this big huge problem for me....

(as for the hardware, MacBook Air mid 2013 8GB Ram, MacBookPro early 2011, 16 GB Ram, both MacOS 10.8.5 (all updates)

with kind regards

Welcome to the forum.

Anything later than 6.1 needs OSX 10.9 or greater. See here:
System requirements for Photoshop Lightroom for Mac and Windows OS

If you don't want to upgrade your operating system, you'll need to get the free Adobe DNG converter, convert your raw files to DNG, and import the DNGs into your copy of 6.0.

Personally, I'd bite the bullet and upgrade the OS.

Thank you very much, Hal - thats an explanation.
It indeed says "
Mac OS..
  • Mac OS X 10.9, 10.10, or 10.11**
and a little bit down :
"** Lightroom CC 2015.1/Lightroom 6.1 and earlier versions are supported on Mac OS X 10.8."

Never seen this contradictory information on any software update before...

But I still wonder (even more though) why the LR-installer is not informing me at the very beginning of the installing process that my system is not compatible - thats what is the usual standard in the software world. The LR-internal update did not tell me, nor did the downloaded installer. Even 6.6.1 did not warn me, its was just displayed with the "app-not-compatible-with-system"-icon, the versions before hat a normal icon.
I went carefully through Lightroom Journal | Tips and advice straight from the Lightroom team. and the only system-compatibility-change i found was the one regarding raw/dng-converter update 9.5.1
Whatever - i am deeply, deeply worried about the path Adobe is going with LR... Seems no other Version than 6 had more problems than any before (see import-dialog controversy), the fear that Adobe is treating the subscription-version better than the stand-alone-version, including the overlaying fear, that they will make it subscription only with the next big update (that would mean the toal dropout ouf of LR for me - painful, but sooner or later unevitable it seems... *sigh*
Kind regards.
