Yes, you can do so. In Book Settings, you just choose JPEG.

The exported JPEGs will have dimensions of the Blurb layout. If that is a problem, just reimport the JPEGs into Lightroom, crop them to the dimensions you ned, and export to JPEG through the standard Export method.

hm... do you guys print also anywhere else rather the blurb? It is convenient being able to order books from there although I also wanted to try different printing shops. I am not sure though how to output lightroom photobooks to print in other labs.

It's not easy Alaios, as the page sizes are fixed to Blurb's page sizes. If you have a company that uses similar page sizes, you can export your pages as JPEGs and then upload them into the other company's software, but it's not ideal as the margins are often different.

Are there any plugins in lightroom that could allow me to use other printing labs as well or not?

No. Plugins work on individual images, not on book pages. If the other lab has its own book software, simply export your images as sRGB JPEG from Lightroom and use them in that other software.

Blurb have a Publish Services plug-in to send photos to their own design software. Some people prefer that to the Book module.

Yes, but that also works on images (obviously), not pages. You could possibly use this plugin to send images to another book application, but I haven't tried that.
