I have Lightroom 4 + Mac computer

I have all Nik software for some years except for Nik HDR. Google sent me Nik Collection ( including Nik HDR) when they took over Nik

This I downloaded. Lack of confidence in this download + trashing the original Nik download has contributed to my keeping the older Nik software.

Today I added NIK HDR through Lightroom preferences as an external editor . On going to Edit in Nik HDR , the HDR program came up, but my photo was not transferred and the HDR program was blank see screen shots.

I know I should bite the bullet and be grateful if somebody could give me a step by step so I don't mess up.

Also is there a reason why the Nik HDR program is not generating within Lightroom?

I am having a problem with the border size changing between photo to photo. I am trying to export a series of 20+ photos and some of the borders plus my watermark turn out the way I want it to and other, well, not so much.

I have read many threads about the watermark size changing, but that's not my case here. The bottom border seems to change a lot. I set my borders so that it is 20px on top-left-right and 200px on bottowm. I did this so I can put my watermark in the bottom border. Sometimes the bottom border looks like it was doubled or even tripled in size.

Any ideas?

TIA,

Hi,

Hi,

I have embarked on a project to scan in my colour slides using a Nikon Coolscan 5000ED with Vuescan scanning software. Some slides are over 40 years old and either faded or more likely the colours have changed significantly. My workflow is to do a batch scan into DNG with Vuescan with no treatments (so basically a Raw scan plus IR channel). Then "rescan" from disk into DNG, with scanning related treatments applied as a separate step ie: using the clean options, grain reduction, specifying film type, and possibly using the colour restore options (these latter ones are not graduated but either ON or OFF). I then import the DNG into LR4.4 and do the LR type stuff.

My question is: are there any plug ins or other options for me to use with LR (or vuescan) that allow me to recover colours in the slide scans. The Nikon software that came with the scanner had Digital ROC which is a much better "colour restorer" than the Vuescan sledgehammer ON/OFF option but Vuescan is so much superior from a workflow perspective (which I have described above).

One other option might be to fiddle with the RGB curve in LR on a channel by channel basis and then create a bunch of presets for different degrees of fading/aging (has anyone done this) - but this would require me to have a good understanding of how the colours transform over time for different film types.

Any thoughts / suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks

I posted this info on the Photoshop site to report possible bugs etc. Maybe someone here has experience etc with this problem. When I run the Recover Edges plugin from LR4.4, the plugin gives a message "an internal error has occurred:?.0: attempt to compare nil with number". The plugin does create a new dng file with the recovered edges and does indeed add it to the library. But, the plugin hangs and will not close automatically. I must click on the x in the progress bar to close the plugin. The progress bar shows that no progress has been made at all. The plugin functions perfectly in LR5 Beta. So, no problem when I find myself in the situation that dictates that I absolutely must have the extra 6 pixels on my images....

Does this problem exist with anyone else, or is it only in my little world? Just curious.

I've just received a stand-alone GPS tracker as a gift. So far, I've managed to record a track while I'm out making images, saved the track as a GPX file, imported the track file and the images into LR, and had the correct GPS locations associated with the images in LR. So far, so good, now the questions.

To get the track file into LR, I've connected the GPS unit to my PC and used the supplied software to save the track data. Works OK. But, I'm now contemplating using the unit on an extended trip. I don't normally carry a laptop when I travel anymore; I carry an iPad and download my images to the iPad at the end of each day. I then review and tag the images in PhotoSmith on the iPad. So, I'm concerned about being able to check the track data daily and also that the GPS memory might fill while I'm traveling. First question: does anyone know of a way to save the track data from the GPS unit onto an iPad? The GPS (QSTARZ BT-Q1000XT) has a USB connector normally used for downloading to a PC and for charging. It also has built-in bluetooth.

Second question. Does anyone know of an iOS app that can interface with the GPS so that its internal settings can be adjusted from an iOS device? Thanks much,
